anatomy studies

A bunch of recent anatomy studies I did to improve my character design skills, it's pretty basic stuff, but it learnt much so far.

You're our only hope.

You're our only hope.

This is not only a Star Wars reference this time, we need you Obi-Wan-Kenobies out there, Internet-Jedis, blogger, tumbler, fanboys and fangirls who share content on the internet. Gondor needs you, the Doctor calls for a free time travel space, and every free house elf who isn't already enslaved by the big cable companies need to act. This is not a decision between Spock and Kirk saving the Federation, or between angels and demons. This is a decision to lag or not to lag, to be shot, or to live (five seconds longer). This is for the ultimate loot: a free and neutral internet.

And we need you: the freelancer, the internet entrepreneurs to stand up and add your voice, for all of us who work with a free and neutral internet to connect to our customers. We can not afford to pay even more to be able to reach our audiences, just for big companies to increase their share-holder profits.

"This is the time to go big, visible, and strong - that's the only way we can actually win this fight. We all need to get as many people in our respective audiences motivated to do something. We can make this epic, but only if you help. We need companies to be frontrunners, leaders, and heroes on this, that’s the key ingredient to raising the bar and making sure everyone goes big."

Join the battle for a free and neutral internet, convince your government to overthink their behaviour and to finally do something for the people, and not the big companies. The FCC leader was once the leader of the cable company lobby, it is time to change is him, and to tell our governments that this is not a decision we are ready to accept.

Anatomy references

I'm into anatomy studies for quite a while now and Faestock on deviantArt uploaded multiple packages of facial expressions yesterday. And I found them to be very helpful. Every image shares the same light source and high quality. They can be easily compared to each other regarding the point of view and facial changes for each expression.
You can download them here:

city environment doodle

The fourth of the black and white environment doodles. The composition went into a different direction as I had expected it, and lacks some storytelling elements I had in mind, but wasn't able to include.

asian environment doodle

A quick asian environment doodle, was fun, some asian mountain scapes are amazing.

Why Your Concept Art Portfolio Is Being Ignored (Part 3) :: ArtCast #73

Chris Oatley is one of my favourite artists when it comes to a sense of community, and he is also the creator of the ArtCast-Pocast where his latest episode went online for about a few days. You can check it out at his website and listen to it online, or download it to your machine.
I'm a huge fan of his podcast and can recommend it to every other artist out there.

environment doodle

Finally got the time to finish this little doodle after some client work, I might work on it later on, but the basic idea is done now and I look forward to refine the other thumbnails to a similiar level.

word 12: Insanity

This time I tried to study a Darksiders 2 concept art piece, I did some changes, but tried to use the same style like the game.

100 days challenge: A Introduction

Hej folks, I recently became a part of the 100 days challenge idea by another artist, and just started yesterday.
The idea of the challenge is, that you chose a list of hundred words and paint an image based of a word every day. It also will be possible to paint just every second day or so, if you have other things to manage. But the point is, that it will give people some sort of deadline and task for every day. And it is also great to find good ideas for abstract words. It can be done through paintings, or prose or anything you can think of.
In my case, I will paint an image every day, following the words order and upload them here, which gives me additional pressure, additional to my fellow artist who forced me into the idea, literally. Kinda. You can find her blog at http://aurekbase.blogspot.de/ .
I will give me a time deadline of one hour at maximum to finish a piece.
This one is for the word 1: Introduction.

Rawr rocks

Work in progress steps: today - rocks.
It's hard for me to stay rough while painting, I always tend to add details and softer strockes. The upper image is full resolution, painted with three different custom brushes, no textures.
